The results of a new study have been publishedin the British Medical Journal (BMJ). The researchers concluded that men who ate a lot of ultra-processed foods were 29% more likely to develop colorectal cancer than those who consumed much less such foods. At the same time, experts did not find anything similar in women.
The fact is that such harmful products contain a lot of added sugars and little fiber. Because of this, a person gains weight faster, and he develops obesity faster.
During the study, scientists analyzed the responsesmore than 200 thousand people, i.e. 159,907 women and 46,341 men. These data were taken from three scientific papers aimed at studying human food intake.
Experts have found that the strongest connectionbetween colorectal cancer and ultra-processed foods was in those men who ate ready-to-eat foods based on meat, poultry, fish (ham, bacon, sausage, fish cakes). In addition, sugary drinks (in large quantities) increased the risk of developing this type of cancer in men: soda, fruit drinks, sugary drinks based on milk.
At the same time, scientists found that the relationship between yogurt and colorectal cancer in women was reversed.
