WHO declares simian virus outbreak a global emergency

This means that WHO now considers the outbreak to be a fairly serious threat to the global

health care, therefore necessarycoordinated international response. The WHO last declared a global health emergency in January 2020 in response to the Covid-19 outbreak. A month later, the coronavirus pandemic was declared.

The Declaration does not establish mandatoryrequirements for national governments, but it serves as an urgent call to action. In connection with the new status, WHO presented recommendations for countries aimed at combating the further spread of the disease, including working with vulnerable groups.

According to the WHO, cases of monkeypox infection inthis year were recorded in at least 75 countries. At the same time, the total number of cases is at least 16 thousand people. The organization notes that the epicenter of the spread of diseases is currently Europe, which accounts for about 80% of all detected cases.

Only one case of infection with this virus has been reported in Russia. The sick man was isolated, the persons in contact with him were identified, they were monitored.
