Wikipedia will challenge the fine for "inaccurate information about the military operation in Ukraine"

The Wikimedia Foundation is fighting a Russian court decision that found a violation of the disinformation law in

articles about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.The organization filed an appeal last week, arguing that the articles contained "true and verified information" and that Russia does not have jurisdiction over the worldwide Wikimedia Foundation. Discuss

The Verge writes that the Moscow court finedWikimedia Foundation for 5 million rubles after the April decision, which concerned seven Russian-language articles, including an article with the title "Russian invasion of Ukraine (2022)".

“This decision implies that credible andverified information on Wikipedia, which is not consistent with the reports of the Russian authorities, is disinformation, ”said Stephen LaPorte, Assistant General Counsel of the Wikimedia Foundation.

The appeal was filed on June 6 and the Russian government will have an opportunity to respond in the coming weeks.
