Without disks and flash drives: in Windows 10 you can now reinstall the OS from the cloud

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 18970 has a new feature that makes reinstalling much easier

operating system on a PC or laptop.

What came up

Now users do not need a local copy of Windows on a disk or external drive; they can reinstall the OS over the network from the cloud.

“We have heard feedback that some of you"We would prefer to use a high-speed Internet connection to speed up this process by simply booting into Windows," the feature description reads.

But…

However, there are several nuances. Firstly, during the reinstallation, all user applications will be deleted. And if you don’t uncheck the “Delete everything” box, you will lose both personal data and files.

Secondly, you need to download at least 2.86 GB of installation files from the cloud. Of course, for this you need an uninterrupted connection to the network.

After this, the same build and OS version that was installed before will be installed.

For now, the new feature is only available in the Insider Preview version. It will appear in the user version a little later.
