Xiaomi Mi 8 Review

The design of the Xiaomi Mi 8 is undoubtedly modeled on the iPhone X. The same materials are used as not, Mi 8

has the same arrangement of cameras. These smartphones differ primarily in size - the Mi 8 is much larger. This is mainly due to the size of the display itself - in Mi 8 it has 6.21 inches. Fortunately, the weight was limited to an acceptable level of 175 g. For comparison, an iPhone X with a noticeably smaller screen of 5.8 inches only weighs a gram less. Mi 8 looks really great and very well done.

The fingerprint scanner is on the backbody parts. This means that when the phone is on a desk or in a car holder, unlocking it is more difficult than usual. At the moment, our software does not have a face unlock function,
. It is important, however, that the reader is not mistaken withcamera lens, as in the latest version of Samsung. In Mi 8, it’s in a great location and works just as well. The monaural speaker is located at the bottom of the case. It has relatively good quality and good volume. Next to the speaker is a modern USB-C connector. Mi 8 does not support memory cards, but is a smartphone with two SIM-cards, in which both cards can use LTE.

The biggest disadvantage of housing is that it is not waterproof, at least there is no official information on this issue.

Display - rating 5
The screen in Mi 8 is really big becauseit is as much as 6.21 inches. The manufacturer was not seduced by crazy resolutions, and he used the FHD + 2248 x 1080 matrix, which gives us a pixel density of 402 PPI. This is not much compared to the most powerful Samsung in this respect, but thanks to this, Xiaomi will work much longer without contact with the socket. The display supports the Always On display service. The screen has excellent viewing angles and very nice colors (colors DCI-P3). In the evening we can activate the blue reading mode. The menu also has a color setting (standard, warm or cold) and contrast control (automatic, enhanced, standard). Our favorite yutuber, Mobzilla, complains about the Mi 8 on a very big note. Indeed, it is gigantic, which significantly reduces the space for displaying the notification panel. There is so little space that you don’t even know how many percent of the battery remains. This second inability can really annoy in everyday use.

Processor / Memory / Technical Parameters
Already at the beginning of the Mi 8 technical descriptionIt should be noted that at present it is one of the fastest Android smartphones in the world. Moreover, most of the tests so far - benchmarks are conducted on beta software versions, which means that Mi 8 can speed up soon. Already selected copies of Xiaomi Mi 8 surpass the magical 300,000 in AnTuTu points. You can read the latest rating here.

Mi 8 has a predictable configuration - these are boardsSnapdragon 845 and Adreno GPU 630. RAM has 6 GB (dual-channel LPDDR4x), and the memory for the user is 64 GB (in our version) or 128 GB. This is a UFS flash drive. Please note that the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is a completely different smartphone, and not just a Mi 8 with a transparent case. For example, the explorer already has 8 GB of RAM and a fingerprint scanner on the screen.

System - rating?
As for the system, the situation with Mi 8 is very complicated.

We must wait for the update, which shouldappear at any time. It should be noted, however, that the version of MIUI for 9.5 is a great, beautiful, fast and stable overlay. Xiaomi undoubtedly wants Android to be very similar to iOS. This is most evident in gestures that can be included in the menu. At that time, even the long-time iPhone smartphone owners will feel almost at home.
