Xiaomi Mi Band 6 review: surpass its predecessor

In terms of capabilities, Xiaomi Mi Band 6 is the most interesting thing in the category. The device only has one

a serious drawback that does not concerndevice as such, and the company’s policy towards the Ukrainian market - the “six” will be delivered to our country without NFC. This means that if contactless payment with a bracelet is a must have for you, you will have to stick with past generations for now. But if expectations are an ephemeral thing, then there is a super-bright and large screen, still exemplary autonomy (a week of work at maximum speed is easy) and new interesting functions (pulse oximeter, additional training modes).

Xiaomi Mi Band 6

The best fitness bracelet on the market

The most popular fitness bracelet in 2021the world has become even more functional. A pulse oximeter was added to measure the level of oxygen in the blood. The display is even bigger and the charging is even smaller (with a magnet). The number of training types has been expanded to 20, there is sleep tracking and interaction with other Xiaomi devices (for example, bathroom scales).

3 reasons to buy Xiaomi Mi Band 6:

  • the screen is a bomb!
  • reference functionality in its category;
  • developed ecosystem (smart scales and smart sneakers can be connected to the application);

3 reasons not to buy Xiaomi Mi Band 6:

  • you are already stuck in another ecosystem (Samsung, Huawei / Honor, Apple, what the hell is not kidding);
  • you have a Xiaomi Mi Band 5;
  • lack of NFC (in the version for the Ukrainian market).

Year after year, Xiaomi releases one hit after another in the world of smart bracelets, spurring the growth of the category and setting the bar in its segment. After Xiaomi Mi Band 5 editionggit seemed that it couldn’t get any better, faster, higher and stronger. But the new Xiaomi Mi Band 6, which just entered the Ukrainian market, exceeded expectations.

How is the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 different from the Xiaomi Mi Band 5?

Improved display.New items 1.56-inch screen and 360x152 resolution. I have never had a chance to hold a predecessor model in my hands, but in this quality of the matrix - fire! AMOLED at its best. A bonus - reduced frames around the display.

Pulse oximeter.Trend of the year, no comment.

More workouts.The new product supports about 20 types of workouts, including such unexpected ones as stretching, bowling, street dancing, Zumba, etc.

What does the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 look like?

You can distinguish Mi Band 6 from its predecessoronly in terms of the quality of the display: it has become larger, brighter, with smaller frames. That's all, actually. Neither weight nor other characteristics have changed. Otherwise, Mi Band 6 is the most typical smart bracelet. By the way, straps from the previous generation also fit it.

I would also like to note the super-compact charging. It clings to the bracelet with a magnet. Despite its small size, the magnet is good enough and holds up well.

How good is the screen of the Xiaomi Mi Band 6?

Although Xiaomi and many other manufacturersuse AMOLED screens in their smart bracelets, this never automatically means that the screen will be cool. AMOLEDs in inexpensive devices can look dull and miserable. Here the screen is juicy and, moreover, with a high resolution (pixel density - 326 ppi).

Although for reading text the narrow vertical screen isnot the most convenient solution, this device provides the maximum that a smart bracelet can give. The font is readable, indents, line spacing and other characteristics that affect readability, too.

The display has a huge brightness reserve - up to 450 nits. I have no complaints about the operation of the light sensor. There are also no questions about the quality of the oleophobic coating.

The model supports 130 types of dials.I really liked the one that is enabled by default. It is informative, comfortable, and looks neutral. But for those who are ready for visual experiments, the bracelet has something to surprise.

Setting up the dial reminded me of setting updesktop on Windows. There is a large selection of pictures, and fine-tuning of the color scheme of fonts (not for all dials, but still). The menu includes a selection of nature photographs, anime characters, and cyberpunk fantasies, etc.

It is on interchangeable dials thatquality of the matrix. For photographs, these saturated colors and high resolution are needed. Thanks to such characteristics of the display, all the pictures on the screen of Xiaomi Mi band 6 look cool, and not shameful, as they could if the company suddenly decided to save money.

What can he do?

Sport

The Mi Band 6 menu now has about 20 typesworkouts. Including stretching, basketball, HIIT, bowling, boxing, etc. But the most valuable thing about this device is that you can select a list of workouts to display and not get lost later in a long menu in search of the right one among kickboxing and zumba.

In general, such personalization is for meone of the key advantages of the Xiaomi platform. On wearable gadgets, the screen is too small so as not to give users the opportunity to remove unnecessary things from it and not drown in unnecessary options. Other manufacturers definitely need to follow an example.

There's a lot to be said for the accuracy of training measurements.I can’t, because there is no way to compare it with medical devices. I can say for sure that the bracelet systematically has fewer calories and steps than the Huawei/Honor device.

In addition to training and pedometer in smart braceletsXiaomi has such an indicator as PAI, which is based on heart rate values, but in fact it is monitoring physical activity in general. In my opinion, a useful feature that should also be adopted by other manufacturers and which is an advantage in favor of choosing a Xiaomi device.

Dream

Xiaomi smart bracelets still lack a smart alarm clock. But let's be honest - do any of you use it? I don't, although my wearable has it.

The alarm clock has a bad feature - itvibrates briefly. If you have problems waking up on an alarm, it is possible that the Mi Band 6 will be difficult to wake you up. But you can translate the alarm clock for a long time (again, in comparison with Huawei / Honor, the alarm of which can be postponed for half an hour).

The Mi Band 6 has quite detailed sleep analytics and even recommendations for improving it. The watch also monitors breathing in sleep, but this function must be enabled separately in the menu.

All smart bracelets swear at me for a short deep sleep - and Mi Band 6 is no exception. Everyone gives recommendations on how to improve it, all recommendations are the same and completely useless.

About Mi Band 6, I can say that its performanceare similar to the Huawei / Honor device I use regularly. But they are not identical, which is often the case with different smart bracelets and indicates that their accuracy is far from medical.

Pulse Oximeter

This model has it, you need approximatelyminute. The accuracy, of course, is not medical; a medical bracelet is simply impossible; the wrist is not suitable for accurately measuring blood oxygen saturation. The bracelet may give estimated readings that doctors may not believe. But if you have trouble breathing and the bracelet shows low blood oxygen saturation levels (consistently less than 95%) - this is a reason to consult a doctor.

Interface and other features

It was already mentioned above that Xiaomi allows you to personalize the interface of the bracelet by choosing which applications will be displayed in it. This is the first advantage.

The second is large icons that are easy to hit.

The interface is smooth and the finger glides so well on the screen with the oleophobic coating that it seems that the bracelet responds to the user's actions instantly.

Separately, I want to highlight a very sensible timer in which you can set both minutes and seconds. Some of the competitors should learn from.

As with previous generations, this one has the smartphone's music and camera control features that some users want.

There is also a breathing workout and a stress measurement function. The benefits of both are not clear to me, to be honest, but for sure if there is a supply, then there is also a demand.

What's with the ecosystem?

The most important catch in choosing a smart watch orsmart bracelets today are something that you immediately have to subscribe to a certain ecosystem of devices (do not even think that if you follow a pedometer with enthusiasm, then sooner or later you will not be tempted by smart sneakers or smart scales).

On the one hand, the ecosystem is a plus for choicea certain brand. On the other hand, keep in mind that later switching to another brand will be quite expensive, so immediately look at what the manufacturer offers.

The Chinese brand Xiaomi is the king of the ecosystem.Smart sneakers and smart scales can accompany a smart bracelet in the Mi Fit app. Neither one nor the other has ever been used. But I have another brand of smart scales (the same as my smartwatch), and I will say this - this is the best buy after the robot vacuum cleaner.

I can't use Xiaomi smart scaleshappened. But from the application you can find out that, for example, they can determine how well the user has coordination, as well as body composition (how much water, fat, muscle, etc. there is in it).

How much battery does it hold?

Despite the increased diagonal and resolutionscreen, neither the battery capacity (125 mAh), nor the claimed battery life (up to 14 days) have changed compared to the previous generation. If the continuous heart rate monitoring is disabled in the bracelet and it does not break from morning to evening from notifications, then we can really say that the lifespan is comparable to the declared one. If the measurements are fully turned on, and there are still workouts, notifications, an alarm clock, etc., then the bracelet loses 10-15% of its charge per day and you should expect about a week of work. Nothing too. Within the limits of the market.

In the dry residue

With a smart bracelet Mi Band 6 Xiaomi companyset a new benchmark for the market in terms of display quality. It's super enjoyable to use. I can safely recommend it for purchase to those whose budget is not yet ready for smartwatches, but will even pull a decent smart bracelet.

Mi Band 6 captivates at first sight, becausethe first glance falls on the display, and it is great here. The pulse oximeter, a large number of training modes, is, in essence, a tribute to fashion. Here it is.

Another plus in the Mi Band 6 piggy bank for doubters is the Xiaomi ecosystem, in which ZOZhnikov are greeted with smart sneakers and watches, moreover.

This model has one "but" - this is the lack ofcontactless payment in Ukraine. If you fundamentally pay with a bracelet, then the choice you have in any case is small: the Xiaomi Mi Band 4 or the more expensive Garmin family of gadgets. Well, or Apple Watch, if you are in the “apple” ecosystem (which is unlikely, because in that case Xiaomi would hardly be considered for purchase).

If your budget is not limited to UAH 1500, thenyou can take a closer look at the smartwatch form factor (even within the Xiaomi ecosystem). The cheapest models will not be more “smart” than a bracelet, but notifications from instant messengers on large screens will be easier to read.
