Xiaomi started blocking phones activated in certain territories

Not all smartphones are available in all markets, but these days it's not a big deal to purchase them through online stores.

special work. Network compatibility and local regulations are not taken into account, but it is certainly possible to make phones work in unsupported regions.

This also applies to those territories where they canthere are legal restrictions on the export of products of certain companies. Xiaomi, however, could take a more proactive stance on this issue by blocking phones activated in markets where export bans are in effect.

Where is it blocked?

There are a small number of countries in whichmost of the allied states of the world have agreed not to export their goods. Some companies comply with these restrictions to avoid being penalized for violating these trade bans. For example, ZTE was severely punished by the US government for exporting products that used American technology and components to these prohibited countries.

Xiaomi also bans the export of its phones tocountries and territories such as Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria. However, the company has no control over third-party resellers and exporters who may serve consumers in these territories. In the past, such consumers were free to buy and use Xiaomi phones, but this may now change.

What is being blocked?

According to reports compiled by the source, Xiaominow actively blocks phones operating in these regions. There is a version that the lock applies only to Xiaomi phones that have been activated in the listed countries, but not those that have been activated in other countries. Third-party firmware running on Xiaomi phones may also be unaffected by the company's remote lock system.

It remains to be hoped that all the world's leading manufacturers will join this practice.
