Young people at risk from monkeypox

Candidate of Medical Sciences, family doctor Sergey Chudakov told what category of peopleGroup

risk of monkeypox virus infection.

According to the expert, these are young people under 40due to lack of vaccination against smallpox. People over 40 years of age are not at risk, just thanks to the vaccinations that they found due to their age, generation. But, according to Chudakov, the current situation does not require the introduction of vaccination.

At the same time, the specialist said that monkeypox is notis so contagious that, due to the spread of the virus, an epidemic or, even more so, a pandemic began. Infection requires close contact, maybe even sexual contact.

“Mainly men fell ill in Europe, there are alsoindications that they are sexual minorities. It is possible that patient zero was a man who had "contacted" with an African tourist. Monkeypox is not highly contagious - you need to be in very close contact to become infected. That is why it most likely will not be the cause of any epidemic, let alone a pandemic,” the doctor said.

He also said that there are currently about 300 smallpox monkeys in the world. But in Russia there is not one yet.

Now there are no more than 300 cases in total.in different countries of the world. In Russia, there is none at all. Therefore, it is unlikely that this is a signal to return vaccination. Initially, vaccination was aimed at a much more serious disease - smallpox, and it is now considered eliminated throughout the world.
