YouTube blocks videos of human rights abuses in China

Human rights organization Atajurt Kazakh Human Rights reports that the YouTube platform has removed their videos with evidence

human rights violations in Xinjiang province,where cases of disappearances have previously been reported. The removed video was flagged as “violating the anti-harassment policy”. On June 15, the organization’s channel was completely blocked.

What raised the questions?

Before being blocked, the YouTube platform repeatedlyappealed to Atajurt Kazakh Human Rights with a demand to cover up or cut out from the video moments in which documents of relatives of the missing are visible. However, AKHR refused to comply with the request, saying that this would harm the authenticity of the filmed material. Previously, the organization posted videos with evidence of human rights violations in the forced labor camps of Xinjiang province.

Some videos have been restored after numerous appeals, some are still unavailable. Human rights activists are actively posting backups of their videos on the Odysee blockchain platform.
