YouTube following Netflix will reduce video quality in Europe due to quarantine

YouTube users will watch videos in standard definition instead of HD by default. New rules will be

valid for the next 30 days. At the same time, the company noted that it has not yet noticed a strong jump in the use of the service.

On March 19, 2020, EU authorities turned toNetflix and other video streaming services asking you to lower the quality of clips to average. The main reason for the request was the increased load on the infrastructure of the European Internet due to global quarantine.

Netflix immediately announced a decline in video quality. According to the company, this will reduce the amount of traffic used by Netflix European customers by 25%.

On March 20, it also became known about a malfunction of YouTube in Russia. At the time of writing, it is not clear whether the failure is related to an increase in the load on the company’s servers in the CIS countries.
